Lesson 3 of 3

Turn one event into a series

A recurring event builds on itself: guests return, bring friends and start to feel like members. How to pick a cadence and grow a community.

The Valore team · 1 min read

Most of the communities people love started as one good event that happened again. Each edition is easier to fill than the last, because the people who came tell their friends and come back themselves.

Pick a cadence you can keep

Monthly is a good default: frequent enough to build a habit, spread out enough to plan properly. Weekly takes a team. Quarterly can work for bigger productions but makes momentum harder. Whatever you pick, plan to keep it for a year; skipped editions are how series fade away.

Make it a habit

A fixed slot, like "first Thursday" or "last Sunday brunch", means regulars can save the date before you announce it. Same venue, same format, small surprises: consistency builds the habit, and novelty gives people a reason to come this time.

Turn guests into a community

  • Remember returning guests and greet them by name. It's the strongest signal of belonging.
  • Give regulars small roles: greeting newcomers, running a table, suggesting speakers.
  • Ask everyone to bring one new person to the next one.
  • Celebrate milestones, like the 10th edition or the first anniversary.

Own your audience

Social platforms change their algorithms; your list of past guests doesn't. Keep everyone in one place, like a calendar they can subscribe to or a newsletter, so each new event reaches the people who loved the last one.
