About event

🙏 Thank you to Netskope for making this month's meeting possible. Join the ISC2 Silicon Valley Chapter for our November meeting, hosted at Netskope’s Santa Clara headquarters. This month’s sessions look at two problems security teams are facing now: whether layered AI defenses hold when one layer fails, and how teams move from a stream of alerts to clear, explainable decisions.

🎤 Session 1: More Layers, Shared Weaknesses: Rethinking Defense in Depth for AI Wei-Kuang (Edward) Lee, Founder & CEO, AIDEFEND Labs Guardrails, security checks, and isolation mechanisms can make an AI system appear well protected. How much additional protection does each layer actually provide? Through a simulated coding-agent workflow involving a hostile ticket, this talk examines where defensive controls interrupt an attack and how shared assumptions and dependencies can cause protections to fail together. It also distinguishes controls that blocked an action from those the attack never reached, offering practical ways to evaluate what remains effective after an earlier layer fails. The session introduces AIDEFEND as an open-source framework and shared language for connecting defensive controls to their deployment boundaries, dependencies, and evidence. Attendees will gain practical questions for architecture reviews, implementation planning, and vendor evaluations. About the Speaker Wei-Kuang (Edward) Lee is the Founder and CEO of AIDEFEND Labs, where he leads the development of the open-source AIDEFEND Framework for securing AI and agentic systems. He has more than 14 years of experience across cybersecurity, cloud security, product management, and technology risk, with previous leadership roles at JPMorgan Chase, Zoom, Google Cloud, and Akamai. He is also a founding contributor to several OWASP AI security initiatives and has spoken at RSA Conference 2026 and Infosec Taiwan.

🎤 Session 2: From Alerts to Decisions: The Missing Operating Layer in Cybersecurity Obbe Knoop, Founder & CEO, LANXIT Cybersecurity has built layers for detection, data collection, and response. With AI creating new risks and teams facing a growing volume of vulnerabilities, the need for a Decision Layer is becoming harder to ignore. Teams need help understanding what alerts and signals mean, then deciding what to do, when, and why. An alert may identify a problem, but understanding the situation requires more: security evidence, threat information, IT dependencies, and business context. Teams often assemble that picture manually across disconnected tools, under time pressure. In this talk, Obbe makes the case for a Security Decision Layer that turns that context into a clear, explainable decision: act now, investigate further, or monitor. Using practical scenarios, he shows how it identifies what matters, makes uncertainty visible, and keeps human approval at the point of execution. About the Speaker Obbe Knoop is the founder and CEO of LANXIT, where he is building the Security Decision Intelligence layer for enterprise security teams. He has more than 25 years of experience in cybersecurity and enterprise software, including leadership roles at IBM Security, Nozomi Networks, Phosphorus, and Armis.
